Noble Sacrifice

Image
Noble Sacrifice, a poem.  Barren seems my life; seeing you sad Happy is my soul; knowing I'm yours Your tears & scars, scrape my heart bravery teaches lessons apart Being everyone's home; is what I know The blossoms which never sprout   Are still engraved in your heart Aiman Farooq Research scholar Jammu & Kashmir, India

Take Me Home

Image
Take me home  For I've been gone For far too long  Too far away  From who I am  My broken pieces are calling me back  The shards of me I did not paint  With cracked masks and meticulous joy  Jumping from one obsession to another To run away from myself  Now, my scars without adorations  My marks without ornaments  I want to remove the soil of the world from my soul For I have come too far along  Now I just want to go back home Ayesha Tariq  2nd Year, FJMU

"When the thunder claps, when the rain showers I'll be waiting in this garden, will you be by my side.” I always thought about the meaning of these words. I was surprised because these words struck me when I started high school. The night before the entrance ceremony seemed like a long voyage. I tried to wait but impatience couldn't let me wait. I started to look for things on which I could waste the time but it didn't help. I was searching my room like a police dog, sniffing every corner, that is when I found a torn book, which seemed as if it had been suffering injuries of a war. I picked up the book and opened its cover, I only found the words: “ When the thunder claps, when the rain showers, I'll be waiting in this garden, will you be by my side.” These first occur to me as very odd looking, but once I touched the page, I felt a person's warmth and I could feel the touch, this sensation seemed relentlessly to much familiar. I felt as if though, this p...

Autobiography of Shujaat Ali Hall

Image
By the pen of SHUJAAT ALI HALL, I still remember it was a cold chilly day when a ribbon was taped at my big wooden, newly carved and polished door having gold colored handles. I was thinking what people are upto,  Because after a long span of construction, i had been at rest for a few days.My deep thoughts about the people's intentions vanished when a group of well suited booted people arrived and the most prestigious man of them, Dr.Basharat Yusuf,The principal of FJMC back then, cut the ribbon, there was a moment of clapping. And my door was opened.A board having title " Shujat Ali hall" was placed on the wall adjacent to my door.So this was my opening ceremony.Shujat Ali Hall's opening ceremony. Just like the deep grandeur represented by my name, I myself was a great piece of art of an architect's mind.Even to this day, I think there is no place like me in the entire Fatima jinnah medical university hostel. And this is not just what i think, In fact every h...

We Will Rise

Image
I am the ray of hope in the depths of despair I am the spirit that rises amidst the blazing flames Because I am the symphony of freedom with a powerful aim I am the voice of the chants rising in the streets of the oppressed I am the fearlessness in the hearts of the once fearful I am the rise of awareness in the minds of the faithful I am the call that resonates far and wide Awakening the yet sleeping will of the persecuted Reminding them of how they have been maltreated I am the mother who awaits the return of her lost children I am the father who has been punished for his decision To stand up for his belief and uphold his vision I am the emptiness in the once chatter-filled streets Where innocent children used to meet and greet Awaiting their blissful melodies once again to feel complete I am the whisper of belief in the near extinguished hearts That once used to beat with such zeal and vigour You tainted my past red but you will not rule over my future The streets...

Book Review: Radio Silence

Image
Title : Radio Silence Length :296 printed pages Genre : contemporary YA Goodreads rating : 4.2/5 Personal rating : 4 stars and a cookie Synopsis : Frances Javier spends most of her time studying. Everyone knows Aled Last as the quite boy who gets straight As. You probably think they are going to fall in love or something. Because he is a boy and she is a girl. They don't. They make a podcast.        Personal review : "Hello...I hope somebody is listening." So first off, this book is so relatable on so many different levels. The all "I am so scared if I'm clever enough to be where I want to be" attitude of the characters, display of just how toxic fandoms and internet can be, the academic pressure on teenagers, the whole "I shouldn't do this or that or people will think i'm weird"thoughts everyone gets every once in a while and last but not the least the pressure the social norms put on youngsters is portrayed accurately.        ...

THE CALLS ARE BARED

*This article is an honorary entry for the Kashmir Solidarity Day Competition* "Did you take everything? Where is your ticket? And... passport?" "Yes, Ammi. It's in the bag already." "Ummm...Oh, what about your Aadhar card? They won't allow you inside without it" "Ammi",I said holding her. " Stop worrying so much. I have already kept it inside my pocket." "I wanted to go with you, my son. But it wasn't in my fate this time. He (S.W.T) has his own plans"  "Neär khoudayas hawaalë . Suii karrê reãchh" (Allah hafiz. He will protect you),  said Ammi. At 12 o' clock in the afternoon, my flight to Jeddah Sharif departed. Seated next to some unknown passenger, Ammi's voice kept reverberating into my ears for many hours. I had always dreamed about performing Hajj with my Ammi. It was nothing short of a tragedy that her passport got misplaced at the eleventh hour. But she ensured that I should l...
