Travelogue - The Many Shades of Sri Lanka (PART 1)

Sri Lanka, also known as the 'Pearl of the Indian Ocean' is one of the most beautiful countries and a tourist haven. It has an abundance of beaches, ruins, wildlife sanctuaries, tea plantations, welcoming people and flavourful food. Being a multiracial country, it is brimming with culture which varies from region to region.

The first thing that comes to mind when anyone says island is sun and sea and beaches with shells so intricate and colourful. Sri Lanka (or SL for short :P) has no shortage of these. On the south coast is Hikkaduwa with it's glass bottomed boat rides to look at the corals on the ocean floor and schools of fish. If you are lucky you might glimpse a giant sea turtle. It is also a favourite spot for snorkelling and scuba diving.

Along the south coast are numerous turtle hatcheries where rescue missions are carried out and people are educated about their struggle for survival due to the pollution of sea water.

Moving on to the east a few famous locations are Arugam Bay, Passikudah and Trincomalee where the more adventurous people surf.

Whale and dolphin watching is also an amazing experience offered in Mirissa. The excitement when whale flukes (tail fins) or spouts are spotted is indescribable while everyone in the cruise rushes to the side where it was seen.

Be it sunshine, beaches, corals or exotic marine life - Sri Lanka has got it all.

Stay tuned to find about different shades and flavors of Sri Lanka.
