The Demons Of His Memories

Image
*This is an entry for the May Blog Of The Month competition. He ran as fast as his legs could permit him. Soon, oxygen started to seem scarce as he struggled to maintain his pace. He was panting like a dog, but he   could not give up. Not now. He had to get away from the demons that haunted his memories, as they threatened to get the best of him. In some distant corner of his still functional brain, he vaguely thought of his mother. No doubt she would be worried sick of his absence and would probably have that familiar look of mixed relief and disapproval once he got back home. But he had no choice. He winced as yet another demon struck against his mind. The view before him faded and he found himself looking at his 7 year old version, trying to escape from his father when he dragged him from the living room to the store because he wasn't able to get his sums right in his Math test. He was beaten and locked up for a few hours in the cold dark room, hungry and frightened out...

LET'S CELEBRATE PAIN

Image
Everything that happens, happens for good. But as human beings, we refuse to accept that. We have double standards. When we attain happiness, we say it has happened for the good of us. When we succeed, we celebrate. But when we’re in pain, we blame it on our bad luck. Honestly, I think pain is more important, even more than happiness. You might ask why? That’s because pain is in fact, the best teacher. It provides us the best guidance. We can't get experience without getting pain and it’s the experience that leads us to success. Failure – It’s presumed to be a horrible word. When we come to know about someone who failed in a certain endeavor, we automatically start becoming distant from them. Some might have hurtful thoughts towards him, others might feel pity. But almost everyone stops considering them as normal humans. That’s where we’re all wrong. Failure is the first step of stairs that lead to success. When a person fails he is pained from the inside as well a...

The Moon - Our Hope

Image
The moon? Seriously? That might be your reaction after reading the title. But, yeah, here it is. A flame of eagerness to write something was ignited in less than a minute after reading an article on FJournals and I promptly opened my laptop and started wondering on some exciting topic and then as I was sitting in my window, I looked up the dark and gloomy sky as if someone just kidnapped me by pouring a jet-black cloak on me. But, no, I was neither horrified nor frightened by the darkness covering every inch of my body. There was a hope in that darkness, there was some light, yes, a few rays but, enough to soothe my soul with its positivity, asking it not to panic as it is here to show me the path, the way to my destination. And then a physicist of my mind started searching for the  source of light. I finally got it - the moon! So, that was how I came up with my topic. You know our surroundings, our lives or should I say we ourselves are all cau...

"Memories" by Kinza Khalid

Image
*This is an entry for the May Blog Of The Month competition. Memories – the word made me recall a thousand recollections from the past fused together in a blended amalgam of thoughts and emotions. Memories tend to leave unaltered prints on our minds. They are responsible for the buildup of our thoughts about a certain person, location or an event. Soft and subtle feelings, harsh and rude words, soothing songs and a peaceful environment, a certain achievement and associated happiness, those beautiful surprises and amazement all make up a part of us. These things when recalled cause a sudden mood transition in a person and it feels as if we are living in that time once more. A particular incident, people associated to it, background sounds, a musical note, all flash back in the form of a film unrolling itself over the curtains of our mind. Instantly, a time travel starts taking a person to all those moment and to re-experience them once more. And those moments which are mere tho...

From KE, with love

Image
For many people their alma mater is like their home. The feeling of love and belonging they get from anything related remotely to their institution is unparalleled by any feeling they would have for even a much better  institution (in the world’s eyes). For me it’s a bit different. KE will always be my home. I have memories associated with its  tiny nooks and corners but FJ, an institution I was never an official part of,  has my heart.  FJ is like a grandma’s home for me. The place where you feel safer and happier than any other place in the world. Where you are pampered and cherished. The place which seems to you the most perfect place in the world. I have never been a student of FJ but some of my earliest memories are related to it which were superimposed by even happier memories later in my life. I am not an FJ-ite or an FJOG but three very proud generations of my family are. FJ to me is a sisterhood. Kind of like KC or LC but more powerful. Because her...

MEMORIES STITCHED WITH LOVE

Image
*This is an entry for the May Blog Of The Month competition. Time passes by Days go on changing But our relation doesn't change Our strength doesn't break Each moment we spend together Each memory we shared together A smile comes when thinking about them A tear comes when missing them. - Amara Rehman (Class of 2019)

The Dark Side of being a Doctor

Image
The journey to becoming a doctor is one that is well-known to put enormous strain on one’s body, mind and not to forget one’s wallet. Therefore, the decision to go into medicine must not be taken lightly and a lot of factors need to be considered before committing to this field. Some people have known their entire life that they wanted to become a doctor. For others, making the decision can be difficult. Thus here are a few truths that anyone going into medicine should be aware of: Sleep is for the weak You will start losing hours of your sleep from med-school and your body and mind will have to adapt accordingly. Time is a luxury medical students don’t have. Pulling one or two-all-nighters will become increasingly common as the load of studies increases. Sadly this torment doesn’t end after graduation. Modern working arrangements have brought into existence the ‘week of nights’ where you work 4 or 5 and sometimes 7 night shifts in a row. Almost anyone who’s experienced this wil...
